The Silk Screen Printing In Custom T-shirts Industry

What Is Silk Screen Printing?

Silk screen printing, which you might also find referred to as “screen printing” or “silkscreen printing,” is a process that involves pushing ink through a silk mesh screen to transfer a design onto fabric.

The term “silk screen” originates from the times when these screens were crafted from silk. But modern screen printing equipment has transitioned to using polyester mesh instead. Polyester offers greater durability than silk, but the core idea remains unchanged.

What a Screen Printer Needs?

1.A wooden frame, preferably square-shaped for a T-shirt design.
2.A tightly stretched polyester mesh screen over the frame.
3.The design you want to transfer, often on transparent acetate film.
4.Inks, often in liquid form.
5.A squeegee or rubber blade to press the ink through the mesh.

Six Steps of the Screen Printing Process

1.Create a stencil for your design. You can either manually cut out holes on a plastic sheet or use the photo emulsion method, which involves using a very bright light to form the stencil.
2. Position the fabric or paper you’re printing on, like a T-shirt, onto a printing board under the screen.
3. Place the stencil on top of the screen.
4. Apply ink evenly over the screen’s surface.
5. Utilize a rubber blade to push the ink through the stencil’s open areas, thus producing the printed design on the fabric below.
6. If your design includes multiple colors, repeat the process with separate screens for each color.
