What Is Dye Sublimation Printing?
Dye sublimation printing is an outstanding process in apparel manufacturing industry. Sublimation (or dye sublimation) is the ‘new frontier’ in decorated or illustrated clothing. Vibrant colors are achieved by applying heat and pressure to bring ink and fabric together as one, so no cracking- no peeling- no fading.
How does sublimation actually work?
All sublimated garments start life as White Fabric.The sublimation printing process provides a unique outcome for the user.
The sublimation process is when sublimation dyes are printed onto a transfer medium with a specially prepared inkjet printer. Afterward, dyes are then transferred from the medium to an object or garment under the heat and pressure delivered by a commercial heat press. When the heat and pressure are applied, the dye on the transfer medium sublimates, or becomes a gas, and is then absorbed into the polyester itself; the print is actually a part of the garment/coating. The ink infuses with the fabric itself, creating a more cohesive benefit.
Sublimation printing is most successful on 100% polyester. Sublimation printing cannot be done on 100% Cotton because it’s a natural fibre.
